Border stones near the road, remnants of the old military barrack, the labyrinth of the border line…
Yes, Križnica is a Croatian enclave pressed into Hungarian territory. Locals come into kontakt with the Hungarian neighbours mostly when fishing on the Old Drava. Throughout history Križnica didn’t have much luck regarding the border because this is where the “iron curtain” was and the border was fenced with barbed wire. That was the curtain that was supposedly there to stop the Soviet expansion to the west, and marked the beginning of the Cold war. Today the Hungarians are our dear friends but ever since the migration issues they have reached for the wire again. If you ask us, we prefer the wires that connect vineyard posts. Hungary deeply values the area around the Drava so it proclaimed it one of it’s 10 national parks: Duna-Drava-Nemzeti Park.
